CHOLESTEROL

Cholesterol is a type of fat (lipid) that is essential for your body’s functions. It is found in every cell and helps produce hormones, vitamin D, and bile acids, which aid digestion.

Cholesterol is your body’s natural healing superstar. Your liver makes most of the cholesterol you need, but you can also get it from animal-based foods like meat, eggs, and dairy.

Let’s clear up one of the biggest mix-ups out there about LDL and HDL.

In the book Put Your Heart in Your Mouth by Natasha Campbell-McBride, the idea is simple but eye-opening:

LDL and HDL are NOT cholesterol.
They’re just the transport vehicles, the Uber drivers of cholesterol.

LDL = The delivery driver
It picks up cholesterol from the liver and delivers it to tissues that need it for healing, hormone production, brain function, cell repair… Basically, survival.

HDL = The return ride
It goes around collecting used or excess cholesterol and brings it back to the liver
for recycling or reuse. Efficient. Clean. Smart.

So what’s been happening?
For decades, we’ve been pointing fingers at the drivers… instead of understanding the mission.

The propaganda about “LDL is bad, HDL is good.” Is totally misinterpreted..
The truth?
✨ Your body needs both.
✨ There is no ‘good’ or ‘bad’ cholesterol. Just cholesterol doing its job.
✨ These lipoproteins are part of a beautiful, intelligent recycling system keeping you alive.

Blaming LDL and worshipping HDL? That’s missing the whole plot.

Having high cholesterol isn’t a disease; it just means your body is packed with powerful healing agents

Cholesterol plays a crucial role in maintaining overall health and longevity by supporting several essential functions in the body.

  1. Protects Cell Membranes – Cholesterol is a vital component of cell membranes, helping to maintain their structure and integrity. It prevents oxidative damage caused by free radicals, which can otherwise lead to premature aging and cell dysfunction.
  2. Boosts the Immune System – Cholesterol is involved in the production of immune cells and supports the body’s defense against infections. It helps in the synthesis of vitamin D, which is essential for immune function and overall well-being.
  3. Supports Brain Function – The brain contains a high concentration of cholesterol, which is necessary for neurotransmitter activity and cognitive function. It plays a role in memory, learning, and mood regulation.
  4. Aids in Hormone Production – Cholesterol is the building block for vital hormones, including cortisol, estrogen, and testosterone. These hormones regulate metabolism, stress response, reproductive health, and overall energy levels.
  5. Essential for Digestive Health – The liver uses cholesterol to produce bile acids, which are necessary for the digestion and absorption of fats and fat-soluble vitamins (A, D, E, and K).
